Once upon a time the Spotted Dog was in a rural setting. Slowly, as London sprawled, the city has encroached upon the site in such effect that by the 19th century the context of the spotted dog had become suburban. Over the course of the 20th century this transformation of the land continued to take effect until the setting has become urban. The development of the site provides an opportunity to enhance the original heritage setting by providing a natural landscape to the immediate setting of the Spotted Dog (a listed building).
