THE BARRELUSTRADE
The barre is a continuous balustrade drawn from the existing staircase in the Hayward Gallery.
The 9 gallery spaces can function autonomously. Thus a maximum of 9 curatorial paths are possible. The barrelustrade will greet visitors upon entry.
One way to understand movement is to, paradoxically, immobilise our visual sense, in doing so our vestibular sense (bodily movement, direction, acceleration and balance) is enhanced.
This paradox of seeing less but sensing more holds much potential as it allows the archive to be eyes of the exhibition visitors. Take your partner by the hand...
